Songs My Mother Taught Me

  • Beerthoven Concert Series 1607 San Jacinto Boulevard Austin, TX, 78701 United States (map)

From nursery lullabies to bedtime stories, to keeping us from falling off the roof, yet encouraging us to fly and hold fast to our dreams, moms are there for so much in our lives that we think they deserve a toast!

Join us this Mother's Day weekend as we present a program written by, for, and about moms! Featuring songs by Johannes Brahms and Eric Whitacre, instrumental works by Clara Schumann and Antonín Dvořák, an original song cycle by Austin-based composer Stephanie K. Andrews, and much more. Beerthoven Founder and Executive Director Daniel Swayze will be at the piano accompanying vocalist Samantha Balboa and violist Ruben Balboa.

Thanks to our sponsors, we will be serving warm pastries and cold beer generously provided by Easy Tiger and Lazarus Brewing as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages--all at no additional cost!

Beerthoven events are family-friendly; kids are welcome! Tickets for children as well as students through college age are available for $10. Purchase at the door or email daniel@beerthoven.com for advance student tickets.

House Concert Saturday, May 7th:

We're excited to continue expanding our offerings by producing house concerts at private venues as well as small public venues around the city. If you'd enjoy a smaller crowd and a more intimate experience, this performance is for you!

Out of respect for the privacy of our hosts, we will only reveal the exact location to ticket purchasers. This program's mystery venue will host our Saturday performance in zip code 78746 (West Lake Hills, Austin). Visit this page for tickets to this special house concert performance.

Parking Info:

Look for parking in the state parking garages immediately surrounding the Saengerrunde facilities. If these are unavailable or closed off, try the Texas Capitol Visitors Center, three blocks south of the Saengerrunde on San Jacinto.

During most of our events these are open and free of charge. Sometimes there is a parking attendant charging $7-10, -especially when concurrent events take place in the Erwin Center.

We cannot guarantee their availability so we would recommend coming early in case you need to use the Capitol Visitors Center garage (14th and San Jacinto) or find on-street parking.

Safety Protocols:

We encourage all members of our community to get vaccinated and boosted as this is the best way to ensure that our concert can proceed without additional safety requirements. Beerthoven will follow federal and local guidelines closely to determine appropriate safety protocols in the event of another Covid surge. As of this writing, the CDC has determined that the level of risk in Austin is low. If this situation holds we therefore intend to produce the concert without requiring masking or social distancing. In the event of another surge we may adjust our requirements and notify our ticketed guests in advance of the performance.
